What are Magic Words?

Magic words are short commands that make mobile blogging work harder and better for you. They can be used to customize the way your entries are organized when you log them via email or via MMS from your mobile phone. Key in magic words anywhere in the body of your email. When you log entries from your mobile phone, key in Magic Words in the subject line of your MMS. There are 5 main magic words, and a neat trick you can pull on your mobile blogging address to automatically set privacy settings for the entries you are sending.

Magic words are always preceded with ##. Here are the 5 Magic Words you'll want to keep at your fingertips:

  • ##end
  • ##tag
  • ##album
  • ##blog
  • ##hide

##end

Sometimes free email programs append text that serve as advertising at the bottom of each sent message (e.g. 'Do you Yahoo?' is sometimes appended when you send emails via Yahoo! Mail). Appended text like this tend to appear as awkward captions in your LifeLog. To avoid this abnormality, key in ##end at the end of your email body. If you're logging an entry from your mobile phone, key in ##end in the subject line of your MMS.

##tag

Use this Magic Word followed by a tag to specify tags for your entry. To specify more than one tag for your entry, separate each tag with a comma. Here are examples of how ##tag can be used:

Specify one tag:

##tag cat

Specify more than one tag:

##tag cat, fur, tail, black

Specify a tag that consists of more than one word:

##tag sharp claws

The example above can be used even if you have more than one tag, like this:

##tag cat, sharp claws, bad kitty, fur, tail, black

##tag can be placed anywhere in the message subject or body of your email. All entries posted via the same email will share the same tags

*p/s: These will work too: ##tags, ## tag, ## tags

##album

Key in ##album followed by an album name to specify albums for your entries. Entries can be assigned to an unlimited number of albums.

Albums can contain mixed media entries. The ##album Magic Word follows the same usage rules as ##tag – to specify more than one album, separate album names with commas. For instance:

Specify one album name:

##album holiday

Specify more than one album name:

##album holiday, beach, sun

Specify an album name that consists of more than one word:

##album sunny beach

The example above can be used even if you have more than one album name:

##album sunny beach, summer holiday, sand sea resort

Using this Magic Word will help all entries posted via email to be automatically placed in your specified albums. ##album can be keyed in anywhere in the message body of your email.

*p/s: These will work too: ##albums, ## album, ## albums

##blog

This Magic Word turns text in an email into one blog entry. Here's how it works:

Say you've composed a text entry about your new pet hamster and you want to attach photos with your email. To only use the text as part of a blog entry, just place ##blog anywhere in the message body or subject line of your email.

##hide

By default, every new entry you log appears on your blog. If you log an entry that you prefer not to appear on your blog, you can override the default action by keying in ##hide in your email body or subject line. Your entry will then be hidden from your blog but will still be accessible in your Entries List.

Try this trick for sharing:

To set share settings for the entries in your email, insert one of these share preferences into your mobile blogging address, just after the blogging key and before the @:

  • private
  • friends
  • lifeloggers
  • public

For example, to set entries in an email to be private:

bob.67845362.private@enjoy.lifelogger.com

And voila! Your entries will be set to the share setting of your choice.
